Welcome to Week 5!

Welcome to week 5 of Discovery Summer Queen's Gate 2017! Although the summer is drawing to an end we still have lots to look forward to here at the school. Our new students this week have settled in very well and have been busy making new friends, trying out new things and speaking lots of English! In the afternoons we have a variety of activities for the students to take part in. So far this week we have been busy building spaghetti and marshmallow towers, Pointillism portraits, 'Scooby-Doo' bracelets and a yoga class! Every morning when the students arrive at school they are able to see what the day holds for them. Our colourful notice board is full of lots of exciting things from sticker challenges to the afternoon schedule for the day! Be sure to keep an eye on it! The students enjoying a well-earned lunch break! Today we visited the Victoria and Albert Museum! Our teen class exploring Trafalgar Square yesterday!

Queen's Gate Olympics!!

Today at Queen's Gate we hosted our very own Olympic Games! But we didn't have any 200m sprints or javelin throws. Instead we had games of 'Crocodile' and ' The Lucky Box Race', as our students invented their very own sports to play! Earlier on in the week the students had worked in groups and created brand new sports. They had to come up with a name, equipment needed and a set of rules! Let's take a look at the fantastic games they came up with... 1. Stupid Bean! Number of players: 3 or more Equipment needed: A ball How to play: Players stand in a circle with one player stood in the middle of the circle. The player in the middle is known as the 'bean'. The players throw and catch the ball to one another across the circle and the bean must attempt to catch the ball mid air! Once the bean succeeds, he or she can go back in the circle and the player who threw the caught ball becomes the stupid bean! 2. The Number Game! ...

It's Wednesday of Week 6!

We have had a very busy Wednesday at Discovery Summer! From productive English lessons to team building activities, let's see what the students have been getting up to... The mornings at Queen's Gate are dedicated to English lessons. Each week the students work on projects depending on the weekly museum trip. This week we visited the Natural History Museum! In fitting with this we have projects on volcanoes, earthquakes and dinosaurs. Studying through project-based learning allows the students to get creative in their various projects whilst also learning important grammar and vocabulary! Kingfisher class at the Natural History Museum! In between lessons the students enjoy short breaks on our fantastic terrace. Break time is the perfect opportunity to make new friends, play games such as connect 4 or table tennis and chat to the teachers! Each day brings with it a new fun-filled afternoon programm...
