Day 1- Welcome!

Welcome to Discovery Summer Queen's Gate!

A new Discovery Summer course has started at Baden Powell House, Queen's Gate in Kensington, central London:

We welcomed some fantastic students who spent the morning doing English classes in the morning, enjoyed a packed lunch and then did some art work in the afternoon.

Our theme this week is The World Around Us, and we finished the day with some great presentations on what the students learned today. Although some were nervous, we were very impressed with everybody's hard work!

Helena's class learned about creepy crawlies you might find in the garden and planted their own seeds! They drew a beautiful poster that they presented to the rest of the group.

Elisabete's class did some work on tube stations. Each group of students picked an Underground station and explained why they liked it and what landmarks were near it.

Jane's class also focused on the Underground and presented their favourite stations to the group. They then each told us an interesting fact about the Underground service; Did you know that the shortest distance between two tube stations is on the Piccadilly line from Leicester Square to Covent Garden?

One member of Jane's class, Viktor, did a special presentation on Baden Powell; the man whom our building is named after.

He wowed us with some great research into Baden Powell, the founder of the Scouts and the history of the building.

We would like to say a big well done to all the students for a great first day at Queen's Gate, but a special pat on the back for the three top students of the day elected by their teachers.

Well done to Abdulwahed, Jakub and Dinara!
