Week 4, Day 2: The Natural History Museum

This morning we went to the Natural History Museum!

Helena's class went to look at Creepy Crawlies! The students saw lots of insects, arachnids and crustaceans.

The students were also able to take part in some interactive features. Here, they were asked to group the various creepy crawlies into groups; they did very well!

There were also live ants and parts of the exhibit in which the children could be active.

Elisabete's class went to see the Dinosaurs! ROOOAAARRR! They were very brave explorers in the exhibi and weren't scared by the huge skeletons and moving models!

Jane's class went to see the Mammals. They saw all different kinds of animals but were particularly focusing on endangered species.

They were also able to talk to museum staff and take part in some interactive things. Here the students were shown a whale skull and other bones. They were told some really interesting facts about different animals around the exhibit.

Narrowly missing the rain, we made it back to school for lunch followed by some great activities!

Jane's class finished their mobiles for the first part of the afternoon! Aren't they fabulous?

Then they learned more about the most endangered species in the world and created cardboard cut outs of them.

The Class' Chosen Most Endangered Species:

-Ivory-billed Woodpecker
-Amur Leopard
-Javan Rhinoceros
-Northern Sportive Lemur
-Northern Right Whale
-Western Lowland Gorilla
-Leatherback Sea Turtle
-Giant Chinese Salamander
-Little Dodo Bird
-Giant Panda

Here are the students creating their cut outs:

Elisabete's class wrote a dinosaur themed story and then made a comic/storyboard from them.

We finished the day with some top-notch presentations!

Jane's class presented their lovely mobiles, as they are saving their cut outs for Friday:
